Intro post!
Oct. 1st, 2009 08:53 pmI’m 28 years old, and I’ve only just figured out how to knit. People have been trying to teach me since I was a kid, but it wasn’t until recently that everything sort of clicked into place. I think it was just the right time. I’m working on developing this skill using my grandmother’s needles. She died when I was a little girl, and using her tools helps me feel connected to her in a way I haven’t in many years.
I taught myself to crochet many years ago and have been going at it strong ever since. I love the craft, love knowing that I can take a ball of yarn or ten and turn it into something special. Whether it’s a making simple scarf to keep my hands busy while watching a movie or creating an afghan for a friend, I adore doing it. I am also a total hook junkie - everything from plastic to steel to aluminum to detachable ergo hooks - I think the only kind I am really missing are bamboo. I should probably get on that. ;) And do not even get me started on my yarn stash. Most of it is packed away in a storage unit (during a transitional move), but that has not stopped me from building a decent sized new stash in my temporary home.
Most of what you'll find here is updates on crocheted or knitted projects I've got on the go (or have abandoned for greener pastures), venting pattern frustrations, sharing of tips and ideas, links to patterns or books, and of course, the trials and tribulations of finally teaching myself to knit. There may be lots of swearing on that one. ;)
